In the area in which I live Physical Education is a required class, but it does not require that the student dress for gym class, i.e. athletic shoes, shorts, and t-shirts. Nor are showers made available to these students. The showers are there at the facilities but are not used for P.E. classes. I blame the cell phone with built in camera for doing away with this requirement and rightly so. However, privacy can be achieved with some rules that if broken result in heavy consequences. I also blame the breakdown in common respect and lack of ethics that are so apparent in current society. When kids cannot get hygienically clean after a workout, they will probably tend to not take the exercise seriously. This is true especially for those kids who have to attend P.E. class in the early part of their day and then walk around the rest of the day, sweaty, and smelly. It seems to me that we have to provide a place in the schools that accomodates these kids in a reasonable way.
